Q: Is Emily’s Beauty In Balance packaging recyclable?

A: Most of our packaging is easily recyclable. Our bottles and jars are made of either glass or high-density polyethylene (HDPE), a widely recyclable plastic, and are coded on the bottom. We use minimal packaging as much as possible—rarely using outside packaging like small boxes unless it is absolutely necessary for extra protection of a product. If we do use small boxes for our products, then we use those made out of recycled cardboard. In shipping, we use only biodegradable corn starch popcorn instead of styrofoam.


Q: Are Emily’s Beauty In Balance products vegan?

A: Most Emily’s Beauty In Balance products are vegan, meaning they contain no animal-derived ingredients. A few of our products contain lactose (milk sugar) or honey. You can find our vegan products here.


Q: Do you offer any fragrance-free products?

A: All of our products are free of artificial fragrances. If any product has a scent then it is merely the natural scent of the plant botanicals and essential oil extracts used to make the product.  Many companies use synthetic fragrances which can be powerful allergens. This is why people with sensitivities find our natural products agree with them much better.


Q: Do you make any products that are hypoallergenic?

A: Since everyone will react differently to different types of ingredients, we cannot claim that our products are hypoallergenic. However, Emily’s Beauty In Balance products are made with at least 97% all-natural  and organic ingredients, without the addition of known allergens and sensitivity-causing chemicals. Therefore our products are excellent for those with sensitive skin.


Q: Can I use your products if I am chemically sensitive?

Emily’s Beauty In Balance products are beneficial for all skin types, even the most sensitive skin. We use only the purest and safest natural and organic ingredients to make our products especially gentle and effective.


Q: What is the shelf life of your products?

A: By nature, the shelf life of individual products under varying conditions will differ. Emily’s Beauty In Balance is committed to small batches and quick shipment, ensuring that you receive the freshest product possible. We guarantee a 2-year shelf life from the time of manufacture, and our products are never on our shelves for more than two months before shipping, giving you a minimum one year and eight month shelf life.  However, exposure to contaminants is possible once the product is opened. Therefore, to ensure ultimate freshness your opened products should be used within one year.

Q: Are Emily’s Beauty In Balance products non-comedogenic?

Non-comodogenic refers to products that will not clog pores and cause black heads, pimples and other ingredient-related acne. Many skin care companies use synthetic chemicals in their products like mineral oil, petrolatum, parrafin, artificial fragrances and artificial dyes that are unrecognizable by your body and often clog pores, causing breakouts. We use natural, healthful ingredients like jojoba oil and aloe vera, which mimic that natural properties of your own skin. Therefore none of our products will clog pores or cause breakouts.


Q. Is it safe for pregnant women to use your products?

A. Our products are natural, safe, gentle and effective. We do not use any harsh chemicals, artificial fragrances or dyes. Because of the purity of our products, we believe that they are safe for use in anyone, including pregnant women and those with chemical sensitivities. However, it is always a good idea for an expectant mother to check with her doctor before starting any new personal care routine.


Q. What is the best way to store Emily’s Beauty In Balance Products for ultimate freshness?

A. Our products are made with the finest natural ingredients, which can be delicate at times. For maximum effectiveness it is recommended that your natural products are stored in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight and heat.


Q. Do you offer your natural products in larger sizes?

A. At this time, we are not offering larger sizes of our products because they are made with the freshest natural ingredients and minimal preservation. It is ideal to present these products in smaller sizes so that they are used when the delicate ingredients are still at maximum freshness and effectiveness.


Q. Are you products tested on animals? If not, how are they tested?

A. No! Our products are absolutely NOT tested on ANY animals, EVER. We use the purest, most natural ingredients, many of which have already been evaluated by the FDA for safety in cosmetic applications.

We send our formulations to biological evaluations and and bioscreen operations for the first round of testing, where state of the art in vitro, or “in tube” experiments are performed in a laboratory simulation representing living subjects. In these tests, biological plant samples are taken to serve as alternatives to standard animal subjects.

In the second level of testing, various different strains of molds, fungus, bacteria and other contaminants are introduced to the product in a laboratory setting to see if the contaminants can survive and replicate in the product environment. When the contaminants cannot survive in the product, we know the product is safe and that our preservation methods have succeeded.

After these preliminary tests, the products are considered safe for use and we begin to try the products ourselves. This is how we determine the effectiveness of a product. We only approve for production the products which pass the highest possible level of quality testing and assurance.


Q. Even though you do not add any artificial fragrances, some products still have a smell to them. Why is this?

A. While it is true that we do not add any artificial  fragrance to our products, some natural and botanical ingredients have their own natural scent. We refuse to add anything to our products to artificially mask the natural scent of plant and essential oil ingredients. Since we do not use any kind of artificial fragrance maskers in our products, you may detect a slight scent. We feel that this is a small price to pay for the purest, most natural formulations of personal care we could make.
